So, as an English teacher if you are wondering what to cover or make your students learn beyond the book, then here are five topics you should start with. All English teachers should add these five topics in their study material to make good English classes:

  • Tense

Tense is important to learn both for spoken and written English. Even after passing out from school, students remain quite confused about the application of right tense. So, in your English classes allot ample time for tense and teach students how to add it in their writing and speaking. Good learning of tense helps one to master English easily.

  • Vocabulary

The vocabulary of any individual reflects their knowledge of English. Hence, English teachers should encourage their students to learn new words, their meanings and use them in daily life. While imparting vocabulary training sessions, teachers should also encourage the use of good dictionaries. Students also look upon the teacher’s vocabulary as an ideal. Therefore, English teachers must use correct and healthy English in class for students to learn.
  • Literature

English languages have rich literature. Often syllabus do not include this literature part integrally or just covers a part of it. At this point, English teachers should take the initiative to add more literature during class session. If time in less in hand, teachers can share good literature books and references with students, that they can refer to in free time.
  • Poetry

Along with prose, English teachers should ensure that focus is led on poetry as well. While English prose is easy to understand, poetry might be difficult to understand along with meaning. Teachers therefore need to explain the meaning and interpretations of poetry and ensure that students like the content they share.
  • Forms of speech

There are many forms of speech in English language and people though well versed with English often don’t know how to use the forms in their daily vocabulary. It’s recommended to make students learn each form of speech and their use taking enough time, so that they know how to use it in daily life.
